Cellular Sanctuary proposes to rehabilitate boredom, and build emotional connections to the real world while offering a neutral space for visual clarity and reflection through a hybrid of meditation facility and Data Center. We propose a center of meditation from technology, powered by technology. The same blue glow emitted from screens that hypnotizes its viewers will be manifested into a sensory form for meditation, creating the possibility of self-awareness and self reflection.
The data center and meditation facility will operate as a platform to explore the hybridization of relaxation and post-human spaces. The two massings work to re-conceptualize a new type of artifice in relationship to the typology of the data center which is typically considered as a post-anthropocene space. We challenge to repopulate these spaces and thereby undermine the relationships with the virtual world.
The massing of the data center has variable thickness with punctured seams throughout for the white noise of data centers to seep through both with light and sound. With the varying thickness of the walls this light will travel into the meditation spaces differently throughout the building. This creates areas of over and underexposure to the data center and produces varying sensorial experiences to inhibit a meditative state within. The colors reflect the varying effects of lights used in chromotherapy.
